So one thing that i have to be particularly grateful for in my life is a fantastic set of friends. From so many different walks of life and different directions in the world that it's impossible to pin them down with any singular description. In the case today though, A very close friend who's very fashion oriented and also soon to graduate from university was the friend in focus. She's recently proved a more than wonderful confidante and advisor, and someone more than happy to listen to all my mad fashion rants, and done me a very important favour. And so, in short, now that she's proved her particular brand of awesomeness more times than I can count, I wanted to show my appreciation for having such a lovely friend. Basically a few ideas have been tossed around the past few weeks of my friend possibly buying a Chanel suit to wear underneath her upcoming Graduation gown (the both of us being self-confessed Chanel addicts, every collection since EVER was discussed in detail and lively debate between buying retail or finding the perfect Vintage treasure). While I couldn't exactly pick a real life Chanel to pop into her closet, giving a little visual aid seemed like a nice way to say a heartfelt thankyou (shown on the left figure)
As well as this, she happens to be graduating from law and like most sane people, the two of us adore 'Suits' beyond description. Soooo in regards to the right figure I tried to put together an uber-chic Haute Couture inspirée (yet Corporate directed look) that combined elements of Jessica, Donna and Rachel's styles in small doses, basically the sort of look I fully expect her to don on a daily basis when she works at a mega law firm
She'll be my lawyer to clean up all my messes, and i'll gift her closet with every single one of my kooky high-fashion creations. And so i fully expect a whole heap of pro-bono representation ;D
So i paired the finalised sketch with a small bottle of Chanel nail varnish matching the colour of the suit. Certainly not a big present, just something very small. I've always been quite apprehensive of showing sketches to people honestly. Even posting pictures up on Facebook in the past have been the result of hours of worried deliberation; will people find them confusing or ridiculous?!. On this space I well and truly feel like it's my own though so i have no qualms posting it up here thank heavens. And whatever other worries I had, my friend's reaction was enough to put them all at ease for a long time. Lot's of hugs and happiness, it made me feel very glad at the thought that the smallest and most sentimental gifts can sometimes have the biggest impact. A wonderful memory with a wonderful darling friend.
